How to Transition Your Wardrobe From Fall to Winter

Transition your wardrobe from fall to winter. As an image coach who helps women dress their best, one of the questions I get asked most frequently is about what to wear when you’re in between seasons. Many of my clients simply don’t understand how to transition their wardrobe from fall to winter, or summer to fall, so they wind up spending way more money than they need to on new clothes.

Today’s guide is all about how to transition your wardrobe from fall to winter without blowing your budget. The key to doing this successfully is to buy a few new things that will look at home during this season, but will also mesh well with the clothes you already own. Here are some of my favorite pieces to wear during the fall-to-winter transition period that should go well with the basics you already own, and will effortlessly take you into the cooler winter months:

A beautiful white blouse

Ideally, your white blouse should be able to take you from day to night. I personally love a crisp tuxedo shirt, or a silky, tie-neck blouse.

A faux fur vest

Faux fur has been huge these past few seasons, and this year is no exception. You can purchase a new faux fur vest for relatively cheap and throw it over your long-sleeve v-neck basics for a fun, warm, and comfortable look.

Jeans and leggings

Jeans and leggings are your best friends for the fall-to-winter transition period. Find a couple of pairs in different washes, colors, and cuts that fit your body type and make you feel amazing.

A cape or a poncho

These lightweight outerwear options will keep you looking stylish and protect you from the elements. Throw this statement piece over your basic tee-shirts and leggings, and add a strong shoe such as a chunky ankle boot to balance the look.

A leather jacket

Leather jackets are the ultimate in chic, and they’re lightweight enough to wear during the early winter months. For a sophisticated look, throw a trim leather blazer over your lightweight fall tops. Add on a scarf and some funky jewelry and you’re ready to go anywhere!

Chic, go-with-anything boots

Nothing says fall and winter like boots! If you’re tall, wear  brown or black leather riding boots with your leggings and sweaters. If you’re petite, stick to an ankle boot that will elongate your legs.

A final note…

Successfully transitioning your wardrobe from fall to winter is about comfort, style, and resourcefulness. Before you run out to the store and load up on a ton of items you may not even need, go through what you have and look for interesting ways to shake your outfits up for the changing seasons.
