Summer dating forecast and the new relationships trends. A targeted style, emotional and social intelligence blog from Confidence Therapist and Authentic Dating Strategist Kimmy Seltzer.

Weathering the storms.

In the past few months, you have been getting used to the new way of meeting people.  You might be contained in the comfort of your home, scrolling through hundreds of profiles to find that special someone who captures your eye. Like a slot machine, you suddenly stop at that one picture that captivates you amongst the blur of faces. It’s only then that you start reading the profile to see if it’s someone you would consider taking that next step with.

You then may have a myriad of boring text exchanges, string of Zoom dates, leaving you with the feeling of uncertainty as to where this can go next.  You might try some creative meetings like sharing a glass of virtual wine, watching a Netflix show together or even a sex party.  But where do you go from there?  How can you build a connection or date someone in this unfamiliar world?

There is a new feeling in the air as summer approaches and people start thinking about re-opening their dating life again.  Just as the weather outside, the climate around finding love is changing.  And it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

“We are in the process of redefining how people date, communicate and fall in love.”

But if you use this time as summer approaches to your benefit, I predict that it could be the best way to navigate your dating experiences into healthy, successful relationships.  Here is my summer forecast for dating trends and tips around how to use them to find love.

Learning to ride the waves with a summer dating forecast

Navigating the modern dating world isn’t easy and is like learning how to ride the waves of emotions.  Depending on where you live and what personal journey you are on, I predict ups and downs that come with dating fatigue, disappointment, fears and anxiety around how to progress on dates.  And for those who struggle with self-worth, these effects can be particularly harmful because you might rely on each “click” and “like” as a dopamine hit for your self worth.

By using this time to learn how to deal with your emotions and build your self esteem beyond the click, you will come out to be a better dater than you were before.  This is an opportunity to get into a date preparedness mindset and build that social confidence.  Have an internal conversation with yourself about what your fears and high emotions are about and consider if it’s a problem that you need to confront.

Sharing small bites on a sunny afternoon

Online and modern dating trends have also had a big impact on courtship.  It’s time to get back to basics and learn to court one another. Before jumping in your jeep with your bikini on to meet someone, find out if your potential date is worth it.  The benefit now is that you can actually hone in on all ways of communicating with a potential partnerand see how you can build chemistry with the different modalities without relying on the physical first.  Think of all this as foreplay which will make the real thing even better!

Work on your text skills and it wouldn’t hurt to actually learn how to use the phone now to have great conversations. I believe doing a video date before committing to the real thing is a trend that is here to stay.  Delayed gratification to get what you want most instead of just what you want in the moment will ultimately set the path for greater success and healthier relationships overall. Be patient as you start reopening your dating life again.

Partly Cloudy with a chance of hope

I predict a silver lining in all of this.  What is interesting is that modern technology has sped up the ability to be introduced to a greater volume of people, but now it paradoxically has caused everyone to slow down and learn to pay attention to things often overlooked or ignored.  One of the benefits during this time is that it’s forcing us to slow down and look at what is important.

Before you might have been swiping left and right, numbing out looking at the pictures and not really connecting with anyone.  In fact, you might just be going through the motions of dating just to go out.  You can’t do that right now so it’s an opportunity to take a look at people differently.

Do a self assessment by writing out your negotiables and non-negotiables to consider what is really important to you.  Write out your mission statement about what you really want to accomplish during the summer with your interactions.  Think of this time as a way to practice building the skills that didn’t work for you before like possibly your conversation and flirting skills.

Overall, I predict a sunny forecast to those who learn to take a slow phased approach to dating.  In the end, you will be able to attract a more meaningful and longer lasting relationship possibly than ever before, because, it’s never, ever too late for love.
