3 Tips For An Online Dating Photo That The Right Guys Will Love!

Online Dating Photo Guidelines

Your online dating photo is the first thing that catches a man’s eye online, so it’s literally the digital equivalent of a first impression. And since this first impression doesn’t also include your charm, good energy, or winning personality, it’s that much more important that you choose an amazing photo for your online dating profile – one that showcases the fun and flirty you, and grabs the attention of the good guys online.

Tip #1: Hire a pro to take your pictures.

Because an amazing photo results in better men emailing you online, I highly recommend hiring a professional photographer who can make sure you look your best by highlighting your strengths, and downplaying any flaws. If you don’t want to splurge on a professional photographer, you can still get a great photo by asking a friend to take a few shots of you outside before 10am or after 3pm when the light is the softest. Avoid trying to take these photos yourself!

Tip #2: Get your makeup done professionally.

If you’re able, get your makeup done by a professional. Tell the makeup artist that you’re having photos taken, because everyday makeup is vastly different from photo-ready makeup. Ask for false eyelashes to play up your eyes, and tell her that you want to look like YOU, just a bit more polished, flirty, and feminine.

If you don’t want to splurge on a makeup artist, start by evening out your skin tone with foundation, and using concealer to cover dark under eye circles and blemishes. Then use a healthy amount of blush for a sexy glow, and wear a neutral lipstick and gloss for a pouty look men will love. To top it all off, pile on the mascara to play up your eyes. Remember that what you think may look like a lot in the mirror will be normal for the camera!

Tip #3: Get your hair blown out!

Men LOVE soft hair, so I recommend getting your hair blown out at the salon for your photos. If you don’t want to splurge on this, you can blow-dry your hair at home using a round brush and a bit of product.

Tip #4: Choose the right clothes and accessories!

You want your clothes to be sexy and man-friendly, so choose your outfit wisely.

A few things to avoid:

  • No sunglasses or glasses.
  • No patterns or stripes. They’re distracting and men don’t usually like them.
  • No turtlenecks. They make you look closed off and aren’t particularly flattering.
  • No blazers. While blazers are usually really flattering for a business meeting, they’re menswear!
  • No baggy clothing! Wear outfits that show off your curves.
  • No flats; wear heels! Not only do heels make you feel feminine, men really respond to them. If you’re not comfortable in high heels, opt for a wedge.

Whether you’re getting your picture taken by a friend or a professional, change your outfit at least three times during the shoot. Have photos taken in at least one dress, and one outfit with jeans, a nice top, and heels. Choose accessories that are simple and fun, but not distracting. Think chic gold hoops, a fun necklace, and a ring. No need for a watch – you’re not keeping time when you’re with your man!

Also, men really respond to pink and red, so if you look good in those colors, wear them! Otherwise, choose colors that look great against your skin tone. The most universally flattering colors are blue, green, purple, and red.

A final note…

Your overall goal is to have these photos show the “dating you” – not the “business woman” or the “stay-at-home mom”. With everything you do to prepare for these photos – from how you pose, to the makeup you chose, to the clothes you wear – think feminine, sexy, warm, and friendly to catch the attention of the good guys online.
